Aloha Poodles!!

It's a new year! Which means it's time I finally blogged something right?!

(Excuse me while I pause in realization that I haven't blogged since September. EEK!)

In December I went on a family holiday to beautiful Hawaii!

Our balcony on Waikiki Beach!
This was my fourth time visiting the island of Oahu, and it was just as lovely as I remembered. Husband and I got married there almost 8 years ago, and we haven't been back since; so it was an anniversary of sorts for us as well.

What better thing could there be, than to be enjoying the tropical sunshine, while it was flooding back home?? Ahhhh... winter vacation.

I wish this was my view everyday!
For the most part I simply lay on the soft sand, slipping into the cool waves when the heat of the sun got too intense.

Every visit to Hawaii should start with a Mai Tai at the Moana!
I did, however, manage to drag myself away from the beach to visit a few other delightful locations.

I'll never get over the sensation of being downtown
in a bustling city, palms towering next to high-rises,
and hibiscus merrily blooming on the street corner.
Husband treated me to some vintage shopping, and I found a couple of new treasures (there may have been bakelite involved). And as a reward for our shopping exertion, haha, we ended the day with cocktails at the amazing La Mariana Sailing Club.

Spectacular harbor views!
A true, original tiki bar, founded in 1957,
La Mariana is a must visit for any tikiphile!
Yep, that's a waterfall grotto!
Oh-so-yummy cocktails may give you the giggles!
Our hotel (Outrigger Waikiki) was sandwiched between the two oldest hotels on Waikiki Beach; the Royal Hawaiian, a luscious pink palace, and the queenly Moana Surfrider. My mom, sister, and I had afternoon tea on the veranda at the Moana, and it was such a treat!

I am in love with the Moana Surfrider's plantation style building,
and central courtyard surrounding a 118 year old majestic banyan tree!
It was wonderful to meet up with our dear friend Debbie.
She lives on Oahu now, so we rarely get to see her.
Debbie brought us each a beautiful lei, in honor of our visit.
Champagne and tea?? Why not?!
Everything was irresistibly delicious!
No trip to Oahu would be complete without a visit to Duke's! Named for the famous Olympic gold-medalist, Duke Kahanamoku, Duke's is located right on the shores of Waikiki. Day or night, this iconic restaurant is packed full of people; many of them stopping in for tropical cocktails and a slice of Hula Pie.

Duke Kahanamoku
Ready to dig in!
Scratch that Tropical Itch!
All too soon, our vacation in paradise was at an end.

"Just a few more waves? Please mom??"
One last sunset...
...and one last look.
I did have a day full of fabulous adventure, involving a certain traveling dress, but that's a story for another time.

Aloha Oahu!
Till then...

  1. Oh my goodness! This looks like a true delight!

  2. Welcome back! It seems that just as I was finding you, you were taking a bit of a blogging break. Its wonderful to see you again. It looks like you had a wonderful time. Winter vacations are always the best, but the return home can be hard. I just got home from a 2 week vacation and am having a hard time being home. I hope your transition home has been smooth and easy. Again, I'm glad you are back.

    1. Thank you! I have found it harder to blog as my Parkinson's progresses. My hands and my brain just don't want to function. So unfortunately my blog posts have suffered. Thanks for sticking with me!

  4. Please blog more. I loved your article on refinishing Bakelite, but it's not working now. What happened?

    1. Hi! Thank you! I don't blog anymore because of my Parkinson's. My symptoms tend to get in the way. Boo! But you can follow me over on Instagram under the same name. :)
My blog has also been having some weird issues the past couple of days. Posts disappearing and others re-publishing. I'm trying to figure it out.
